rythme.prototype
What it is
This is the start of a rhythm game: a dark board with ten round frets along its bottom. Hold the number keys 1 to 9 and 0 and the matching frets light up, several at once if you like. No notes fall yet; it is the first step of the game, kept as it was.
How it's built
I wrote it in C++ on SFML and Dear ImGui in January 2022. In 2026 I moved it to SFML 3.1 and my library kazilib, and compiled it to WebAssembly for this site.
- The board and the frets are sized from the window's resolution: each fret's radius is the board width divided by ten, minus the outlines, so the layout follows the window.
- The frets are shaded darker from left to right, and a fret's outline turns yellow while its key is held.
- The Windows build opens a borderless 1024x768 window with a console beside it, and has a small command parser of its own (
help, out) for typing commands into the game. - Scenes run on kazilib's scene manager; the copies of ImGui, magic_enum and my older library that the repo carried were replaced by kazilib's.
- Getting the web build to link exposed a bug in kazilib itself: a function in a bundled header was not
inline, so the web linker refused the duplicate definitions.
